DIY Dye

Over the summer, we visited Adam's parents in Idaho and they gave us a box FULL of vegetables from their garden. One Sunday, Kensie had a crazy, spur-of-the-moment idea and decided to use beets to dye a white dress she had.
She used this and this as her main research sources and then just kind of made it up on the way.
Here's how it went:
Boiling the beets in water/vinegar to extract the color.

Throwing away the beet chunks, leaving just the dyed liquid.

Kensie decided to dye the dress from the bottom up to create an ombre look.

It simmered for a while and then just sat and soaked overnight.

We decided to let it drip dry in the shower.

More drip-drying, then a run through the dryer to set the color.
It came out great!
